Therapy

Therapies offered for individuals

I offer open-ended psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy for individuals, which gives attention to aspects of the personality like conflicts, beliefs and fantasies which have an impact on the way one feels or behaves, including mood, anxiety levels, though the individual may not realise this.

Psychotherapists are trained to understand both conscious and unconscious aspects of behaviours that contribute towards repetitive, self-sabotaging ways of relating to the self and or others, personally or at work. The work cannot be self-managed but needs to happen in a therapeutic setting of safety and trust.

Initial assessment for therapies offered

The aim of the initial consultation is to understand what brought the person to seek help now and to reach a formulation of the problem and what would be helpful for this person, at this time.  It generally takes place over two meetings. If psychoanalytic psychotherapy is not suitable currently, another recommendation can be made.  Sometimes the initial consultation can be enough with no need to proceed to further treatment.

Dynamic Interpersonal Psychotherapy (D.I.T) is a brief therapy model (16 sessions) developed in recent years, aimed at helping people suffering from mild to moderate anxiety and depression. The treatment is aimed at encouraging exploration of relationship patterns in the present and the past, in a structured way and is one option endorsed by the National Institute of Health & Excellence (NICE) guidelines.  Suitability for this modality is considered at the assessment stage.

What are the core aims of the therapy process?

Change can then take place when working on relationships and coming to terms with experiences from the past, that get relived in the present- including in the relationship with the therapist.
